Greenwich Students Head to Haiti on Service-Learning Trip

Four students in the Upper School at Convent of the Sacred Heart will go to Haiti in February for a service-learning trip at Project Venerable Pierre Toussaint.

Sacred Heart is organizing its first service retreat to Haiti. In February, a small group of students will accompany teachers and The Rev. Paul Carrier, S.J., a member of our Theology Department, who is also chair of the Haiti Fund, Inc. The group will perform service work with poor children at the Project Pierre Toussaint in Cap Haitien.

“It’s exciting that this trip is becoming a reality,” said Michael Chung, director of Upper School campus ministry and community service, who is coordinating the trip with Father Carrier. The students who are going on the trip are Gabriella Almeida, Lizeth Cervantes, Ayesha Samant and Kathleen Ziminsky. In addition to Mr. Chung and Father Carrier, the chaperones will include Mrs. Nancy Maloy, Upper School drama teacher.

The mission of Project Pierre Toussaint is to foster the spiritual, physical, emotional and educational growth of Haitian street children. The students will mentor the Haitian children. To learn more about the project, visit the website http://haitippt.com.
