Thought of the Day
"What is the good of teaching various subjects, of wasting time in learning them, if at the same time we cannot teach children the words of life and touch their hearts and their consciences?"

Greenwich higlights global connections Print E-mail

Convent of the Sacred Heart in Greenwich, Connecticut highlighted the global connections of Sacred Heart schools at its Parents’ Association fall luncheon, “Unite Our World.”   The event featured an exciting “parade” of uniforms from Sacred Heart schools around the world.

The annual luncheon raises funds for faculty professional development.  This year, it featured Joan Kirby, rscj ’43, who is a member of Sacred Heart’s Board of Trustees and represents the Temple of Understanding at the United Nations.  Sister Kirby introduced the guest speakers, Lee Woodruff, wife of ABC News anchor Bob Woodruff, and Melanie Bloom, a Sacred Heart parent and widow of NBC News correspondent David Bloom.  Their inspiring messages charted their personal journeys in the aftermath of tragedy.  They spoke about the role that faith, family and friends played in helping them reconstruct their lives.

Sacred Heart students modeled uniforms from more than 20 Sacred Heart schools in Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, England, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Scotland, Spain and Uganda.  As each student strode across the stage, the audience of nearly 500 parents, alumnae, trustees and friends erupted in spontaneous applause.  A 21-minute video accompanied the parade and displayed large photos of Sacred Heart schools.
