Convent
of the Sacred Heart Dedicates New Performing Arts Theater
Convent
of the Sacred Heart dedicated its new 465-seat performing arts theater on
September 29 at two ribbon-cutting ceremonies, one for the Lower School and one
for the Middle and Upper School. The two ceremonies enabled all students
to participate in this important event.
The new
theater is named the "Lennie and John de Csepel Theater" after the
theater's major donors. Mrs. de Csepel retired as chair of the
School's Visual and Performing Arts Department in June 2003 and is member of
the Board of Trustees. She was made an honorary alumna in 2005 in appreciation
for her many years of service as a faculty member.
Mrs. de
Csepel graduated from Convent of the Sacred Heart at 91st Street, in
New York City and went on to receive her bachelor’s degree from Newton College
and a master’s degree in teaching from Manhattanville College.
Headmistress Joan Magnetti,
rscj welcomed the de Csepels and Board of Trustees Chair Kristina Sekor Hooper
'88 to the ribbon cutting with a few opening words. "It is my joy to
welcome you to the Lennie and John De Csepel Theater! So many of you know Mrs. de Csepel from her many years of service
to the school as teacher and chair of the arts department," said Sister
Magnetti, addressing the students who filled every seat in the
theater. "Because of the generous hearts of the de Csepels and
others, we now have a home for our music and drama and dance, morning meetings,
forensics…and so much more!"
