Clinton, Governor George Pataki, Caroline Kennedy, Senators Chuck Schumer and Hillary Clinton and actress Mira Sorvino. Mr. Hodgkinson was honored at a black tie awards dinner held at Manhattan’s Cipriani restaurant on Monday, June 12.
Seamus Hodgkinson is a legendary member of the Doane Stuart faculty, an inspirational teacher and coach who has touched the lives of thousands of students since joining the school as a founding member in 1975. A native of Belfast, Northern Ireland, Mr. Hodgkinson has enthusiastically embraced and played a key role in sustaining Doane Stuart’s unique status as America’s only successfully merged Protestant-Catholic school, helping students to learn about peace and tolerance for others. Over the past several years, Mr. Hodgkinson has worked to take that message of peace back to his homeland. He stands as the inspiration for and driving force behind Doane Stuart’s Irish-American Exchange Program, which brings one Catholic and one Protestant student from Belfast to the School each year. In its second year, Doane Stuart’s Irish-American Exchange Program won the prestigious Leading Edge Award from the National Association of Independent Schools.
The Doane Stuart School is the Capital Region’s only coeducational, nursery through grade twelve school and is located on 9W just off NYS Thruway Exit 23. The School enjoys the distinction of being the only successfully merged Protestant-Catholic school in the country, and is situated on an eighty-acre campus that includes tennis courts, nature trails, and a recently renovated, historic gothic revival chapel.
