Information about donations for Haiti.
This is from Paula Toner, rscj regarding donations for Haiti…
Having communicated the news about Haiti from the Mother House today, we need to follow it up with another communication. We have been asked my many where to send contributions, and so we want to let people know. The province has a Haiti Fund because we are one of the five provinces responsible for the mission in Haiti, together with Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Cuba. We all work at raising funds for our mission in Haiti.
There are the large aid agencies, always, but for those who are thinking of the Society's mission we would like to recommend the province Haiti Fund for contributions. Under these extraordinary circumstances, if contributions would ever exceed our direct needs (it is very likely that our house in Port-au-Prince has been damaged and we don't know yet about Verrettes, so we will need help!) our sisters there would be able to tell us where it is most needed. They could do that if the donations are in that Haiti Fund. Diane Roche, for example suggested Fonkoze and the Albert Schweitzer hospital -just on the outskirts of Port-au-Prince and still functioning, and they will be beseiged! Those are service providers the bigger agencies may overlook or not get to for some time. The point is, our sisters there are in the best position to determine where it is most needed, and we would hold the funds here until they tell us where to send them.
It is possible to donate online: www.rscj.org - press the DONATE button on the right and on the donations page at the bottom, write in "HAITI" in the white box. Donations can always be mailed, too. If you get inquiries, or if you would like to send this information out or post it to the website, that would be wonderful.
Thank you so much for all your help, and please keep praying!
With love and gratitude,
Paula
