Sacred Heart Schools seek English/Writing Lab Teacher (Grades 6-8) Print E-mail

Sacred Heart Schools, Chicago, IL seek English/Writing Lab Teacher Grades 6-8

Founded in Chicago in 1876, Sacred Heart Schools at Sheridan Road (Hardey Preparatory for Boys and Academy of the Sacred Heart for Girls) are independent, Catholic, single-sex elementary schools committed to academic excellence within the context of a Christian, faith-based community.  The educational mission is deeply rooted in the 200-year tradition of the Society of the Sacred Heart and shared with the Network of Sacred Heart Schools located in 32 countries, including 21 schools in the United States.  The essence of this tradition is the total development of each child: spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional and physical. Our girls and boys are taught in single-sex classrooms, but follow a similar curriculum and share in many activities.  With a total enrollment of approximately 646 students, the schools are organized into three academic divisions each led by a division head.

The English/writing lab teacher will work within the scope of the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart education to teach elements of the writing process to middle school students.   Instruction will emphasize writing mechanics, grammar, and vocabulary.  The instructor will teach writing in class and work as an active team member of the middle school faculty to coordinate writing across the curriculum.  As a member of the middle school faculty, this teacher will be responsible for classroom obligations, including student assessment, curriculum development and evaluation, as well as supervisory duties and serving as a middle school advisor.

Bachelors Degree required, Masters Degree preferred. Salary and benefits are competitive.

Interested candidates should send an email containing a letter of interest and resume. Additionally, fax or mail in the Application from http://www.shschicago.org/position
