Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart seeks candidates for the position of Director of Finance and Operations.


Founded in 1960, Duchesne is the only all girls Pre-K through 12th grade Catholic school in Houston and serves 665 students.

The Director of Finance and Operations reports to the Headmistress of the School and has the overall responsibility to effectively manage the School’s resources in support of the mission of the School. Duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

•     Management of all financial operations of the School, including financial reporting, budgeting, accounting, payroll, student billing and accounts receivable, accounts payable, and purchasing.

•     Coordination, design and implementation of internal financial reporting systems, financial controls and management information systems.

•     Administration of employee benefits and other human resource functions.

•     Administration of property and liability insurance.

•     Oversight of the School’s cash reserves, including short term operating funds and the School’s invested endowment funds under the direction of the Finance Committee and the School’s investment advisor.

•     Compliance with local, state and federal laws related to the School’s employment practices and financial affairs.

•     Oversight of the Sage Dining program and dining hall facilities.

•     Oversight of the nursery program.

•     Collaboration with the Advancement Office to support fundraising and capital campaign activities.

•     Financial oversight of all parent programs such as the Parents’ Association, Extravaganza benefit auction, DASH n Go Bookstore, Book Fair, Junior Dash and Booster Club.

•     Develops and implements systems and processes to establish and maintain records.

•     Serves as ex-officio on the Board Finance and Building and Grounds Committees and attend all Board meetings.

•     Supervision of the maintenance and cleaning of all physical property and equipment including capital repairs and new construction.

•     Direct reports include Controller, Payroll/Accounts Payable Manager, Assistant to Director of Finance and Operations, Receptionist, Nursery Director, and Director of Facilities.

Qualifications:

•     Bachelors degree in business or accounting or other related advanced degree, MBA and/or CPA preferred, and a minimum of five to eight years of relevant experience in a non-profit environment, academic preferred. 

•     Experience with capital campaigns and ability to work with architects and builders.

•     Ability to communicate effectively with School representatives, parents, students, and representatives from the business community.

•     Working knowledge of business accounting policies, procedures, practices and accounting software programs, Blackbaud Financial Edge preferred.

•     Ability to think and plan strategically and creatively.

•     Ability to supervise and manage multiple functions and activities.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

•     Occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.

•     Generally works in standard office conditions and climate.

•     Desire to work in a highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts.

•     May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
