91st Street students attend 35th Annual Bread for the World Conference

1_91_dc.gifSix students and 2 teachers from the 91st Street community in NYC attended the 35th Annual Bread for the World conference in Washington DC from June 14th through June 16th. The students and faculty immersed themselves in workshops to deepen their understanding of how their voices can make a difference on legislation. On June 16th, they attended Lobby Day with over 400 concerned citizens! The girls spoke with the aides to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Representative Carolyn Maloney encouraging our Senator to support the initial aid reform bill soon to be introduced in the senate and asking Maloney to cosponsor H.R. 2139 and help to make our foreign assistance more coordinated and accountable.

In the fall, our Sacred Heart Bread Advocacy group will continue meeting with district representatives and senators to move foreign assistance reform forward.
